Spurs vs. Nuggets Preview

Early this season the Spurs have been surprising NBA pundits by averaging over 30 assists per game. Fortunately for the Nuggets home fans, the Spurs fell short only recording 28 assists. Keldon Johnson led the young spurs squad with 25 points. Rising star Devin Vassell was right behind him with 20 points.

Spurs Need Rookies To Step Up

With Vassell playing with limited minutes coming back from a knee injury, the Spurs have moved rookie Malaki Branham into the starting lineup. Everything we know about Branham points to him being a future star in the league, but he underperformed in Denver only recording 4 points in 23 minutes. Jeremy Sochan who is also a Spurs rookie had 5 points in 24 minutes. Look for both of these young talents to step up tonight to help the Spurs get the victory.

The Nuggets Dismantled The Spurs

Nah’Shon Hyland led the Nuggets with 24 points off the bench. The two-time MVP Jokic recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists. By the end of the game, the Nuggets had six players in double digits, which shows they simply outplayed the Spurs. The Nuggets led by over 30 points in the contest and enjoyed a comfortable margin for most of the second half.

Keys For Success

The Spurs have to turn the defense up to 11. The Spurs took great shots Saturday night, but it just seemed that the basketball gods were with the Nuggets that night. Even if the Spurs were able to turn things around and hit more of their shots, a repeat performance of giving up 126 points won’t be enough to hold off the Nuggets. Look for the Spurs to be high-energy and push the pace of the game. The Spurs are without two key defensive players in Collins and Langford, but everyone on the team is capable of stepping up to the occasion.

Tonight’s game should be a hard-fought battle with lots of energy and defensive stops if the Spurs hope to win. If the game turns into trading shots once again then it heavily favors the highly efficient Nuggets with their superstar player and great supporting cast.

Who do you have in this Spurs vs. Nuggets rematch?
