Creighton vs Providence

  • When: Tuesday, February 14, 2023
  • Start Time: 7:00 PM ET

Creighton vs Providence Preview

The Blue Jays are on a major heater as they have won their last eight games while the Friars lost in baffling fashion to St. John’s over the weekend. However, they did beat Georgetown between the St. John’s and Xavier overtime loss. So they didn’t take any seriously damaging losses.

Creighton is finally playing at the level most people thought they would be to start the season. 7-footer Ryan Kalkbrenner is playing efficiently for Creighton and protecting the rim pretty well to boot. Of course, this team relies on the shooting of Baylor Scheierman who is shooting almost 40% from deep. Meanwhile, Providence is led by the trio of Bryce Hopkins, Devin Carter, and Ed Croswell.

Alabama vs Tennessee

  • When: Wednesday, February 15, 2023
  • Start Time: 7:00 PM ET
  • Location: Thompson-Boling Arena – Knoxville, Tennessee
  • How to watch: ESPN2

Alabama vs Tennessee Preview

The Crimson Tide is undefeated in conference play so far this season and will certainly look to hold on to that heading into Knoxville. On the flip side, Tennessee has suffered two absolutely brutal losses in the last week to Vanderbilt and Missouri. The worst part is that both losses came on buzzer beating shots. You have to think the likelihood of that happening again against Alabama is quite small.

Tennessee’s offense will have to show up in this game if the Vols want to avoid a three-game losing streak and their shot at a 1-seed for the NCAA Tournament. Despite scoring in the 80s against Missouri, the Vols only scored 54 in a loss to Florida and then scored 65 in the loss to Vandy. Alabama will look to build on its thrashing of Florida and 8-point win over in-state rival Auburn.

Xavier vs Marquette

  • When: Wednesday, February 15, 2023
  • Start Time: 7:00 PM ET
  • Location: Fiserv Forum – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • How to watch: ESPN2

Xavier vs Marquette Preview

This should be the Big East showdown of the week as these two teams are within a half game of each other in the conference standings and are ranked in the top 20. Xavier has won four out of its last six, but is looking to get back in the win column after a two-point loss to Butler. Marquette has won six of its last seven and wants to make it a streak after its win over Georgetown last weekend.

The Musketeers will rely heavily on their upperclassmen in Jack Nunge, Souley Boum, Zach Freemantle, Adam Kunkel, and Colby Jones. Marquette will lean on sophomore guard Kameron Jones as he is the leading scorer for this team. But he should get some help from juniors Oso Ighodaro, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Tyler Kolek in this one.

Iowa State vs Kansas State

  • When: Saturday, February 18, 2023
  • Start Time: 2:00 PM ET
  • Location: Bramlage Coliseum – Manhattan, Kansas
  • How to watch: ESPN

Iowa State vs Kansas State Preview

Both of these teams have been struggling with the rigor of the Big 12 schedule in recent weeks. ISU has lost six of its last nine, but has notable wins over Kansas, Texas, and Kansas State in that time. Meanwhile, Kansas State has lost four of its last six with one notable win coming against TCU.

The Cyclones need to get back to playing solid defense as they’ve given up 70 or more points in three of their last five games. They get back to allowing their usual 62 points per game and the offense should be fine. Kansas State has had similar issues as their opponents have scored 69 or more in their of their last fives games. Keyontae Johnson and Markquis Nowell have to get going in this one to get a win.

Baylor vs Kansas

  • When: Saturday, February 18, 2023
  • Start Time: 4:00 PM ET
  • Location: Allen Fieldhouse – Lawrence, Kansas
  • How to watch: ESPN

Baylor vs Kansas Preview

After an 0-3 start to Big 12 play for Baylor, the Bears have gotten hot as they’ve won nine of their last 10 games heading into the week. Kansas isn’t quite as hot, but the Jayhawks have won four of their last five, with the lone loss coming to Iowa State. Both of these teams are tied for second in the Big 12 so obviously this game has some conference seeding implications and could help the victor move up a seed line for the big tournament.

The biggest boost for Baylor has been the return of forward Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua. He’s a quintessential glue guy and bolsters the Bears’ bench, which has been short at times. The matchup between him and any one of Kansas’ big men — KJ Adams, Zach Clemence, Ernest Udeh, and Zuby Ejiofor come to mind — should be fun and could decide the game. But don’t underestimate “The Phog’s” homecourt advantage as Kansas has only lost once at home in conference this season.
