Spurs Draft Prospect: The Mighty Mouse that is Tyler Ulis

The San Antonio Spurs may not have very many needs when it comes to the NBA Draft this year — depending on who returns or retires — but it never hurts to get another floor general should teams come looking for Patty Mills next offseason when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. One player who […]

With the San Antonio Spurs picking 29th in this year’s NBA Draft, they will have some serious scouting they have to do to find solid talent that could possibly play right away. One of the players who falls under that category is Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson. He was basically a do-it-all shooting guard for coach Jim […]

Spurs Draft Prospect: Chinanu Onuaku

With the San Antonio Spurs owning the 29th pick in this year’s NBA Draft, they will have to do some real scout work to try and find a diamond in the rough late in the first round. One of those guys could be Louisville’s Chinanu Onuaku, who is being mocked as an early second-rounder. The […]

Spurs Draft Prospect: Malcolm Brogdon

With the San Antonio Spurs picking 29th in this year’s NBA Draft they won’t exactly have the best available options in the draft, but should still have plenty of available players who are NBA-ready and can contribute in smaller ways than perhaps their flashier, lottery-bound counterparts. Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon is one of those players. He […]

Spurs Draft Prospect: A human pogo stick known as Brice Johnson

If you are a college basketball fan then you probably saw Brice Johnson ball out in this last year at North Carolina. He was phenomenal all season averaging a double-double with 17 points and 10.4 rebounds. There were only three games all year when he didn’t score in double figures and he had 23 double-doubles. […]

Leonard, Aldridge named to All-NBA teams

Via Spurs PR:

The NBA today announced that San Antonio Spurs forwards Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge have both been named to the league’s All-NBA Teams. Leonard was selected to the All-NBA First Team, while Aldridge was selected to the All-NBA Third Team.

Leonard and Aldridge’s All-NBA honors mark the 19th consecutive season the Spurs have had a player named to an All-NBA Team. A Spur has now been named to an All-NBA Team 42 times in team history, which includes 20 First Team selections, 11 Second Team selections and 11 Third Team selections.

This season marks the eighth time in Spurs franchise history that two teammates have been named to All-NBA Teams in the same year. The last time was when Tim Duncan (First Team) and Parker (Second Team) were both selected in the 2012-13 season.

Leonard, the 2015 and 2016 Defensive Player of the Year, earns his first career All-NBA honor. In his first All-Star season this year, Leonard averaged a career-high 21.2 points to go along with 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.78 steals in 33.1 minutes while shooting .506 (551-1,090) from the floor, a personal-best .443 (129-291) from beyond the arc and .874 (292-334) from the free throw line. A member of this year’s All-Defensive First Team, Leonard was the only player in the NBA to average at least 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting over 50.0 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from the three-point line this season. The fifth-year forward scored in double figures 70 times, including 44 games with at least 20 points, and led the team in scoring in 44 contests. The 2014 Finals MVP becomes just the fourth Spur in franchise history to be named to the All-NBA First Team, joining George Gervin, David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

Aldridge receives his fourth career All-NBA honor, including his third straight selection. He is one of only four players in the league to be named to the All-NBA Team in each of the last three seasons, along with LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Chris Paul. An All-Star in each of the last five straight seasons, Aldridge was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2015 and the All-NBA Third Team in 2014 and 2011 while with Portland. The first-year Spur increased his scoring average in each month of the season and averaged 18.0 points, a team-best 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.09 blocks while shooting .513 (536-1045) from the field and a career-high .858 (259-302) from the free throw line. Aldridge is one just three players to score 1,000 points or more in each of the last nine seasons, along with Dwyane Wade and James.

Leonard and Aldridge helped lead the Spurs to a franchise-best 67-15 record this season, which included a 40-1 record in San Antonio that tied the 1985-86 Boston Celtics for the best home record in NBA history. The Silver and Black reached the playoffs for the 19th consecutive year, the longest active streak and fourth-best in league history.

Spurs Draft Prospect: DeAndre’ Bembry

There are several NBA prospects the San Antonio Spurs should be looking at come June and Saint Joseph’s DeAndre’ Bembry should be one of them. Draft Express has Bembry slated as the 30th pick in the draft, which would be one spot after where the Spurs are picking. Bembry might be a guy who could […]
