The Detroit Pistons kicked off the weekend here in San Antonio against the city’s fellow Spurs team. The Spurs were already lacking shooting Guard Devin Vassell due to a left knee injury, so losing their other top scorer, Keldon Johnson, to a left hamstring strain during the game was not in their favor. Despite the obstacle, San Antonio was able to defeat the pistons 121-109.

Always Stay Ready

Tre Jones stepped up tonight ready to fill the top scorer slot. Jones kept his team in the game with his aggressive drive to the basket and finishing layups. He ended the night with 25 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Romeo Langford has become accustomed to starting in place of Devin Vassell during the season as Vassell managed his knee injury. Now that Vassell has been ruled out indefinitely while he undergoes knee surgery and rehabilitation, Langford is happy to seize the moment.

He was the second top scorer of the night with 15 points, two rebounds, and one assist.

Its A Game of Mistakes

This game seemed like an emotional roller coaster for the fans. Careless acts with the ball led to multiple turnovers. The Spurs had 17 total that the pistons were able to acquire 23 points off of. However, they still found a way to capitalize off of other possessions in some way, making up for their mistakes.

San Antonio had four blocks compared to Detroit’s zero. They also effectively rebounded on the defensive end removing the opportunity for the Pistons to recover the ball 37 times. At the free throw line, the team shot at 84.6% while the visiting squad only shot at 58.8%.

Overall they played a better game than the motor city while exercising their strengths. Some, like Stanley Johnson and Malaki Branham, showed their developing skills beyond the arch. The one thing that kept this game together was their “Next man up” mentality. No one can afford to get too comfortable on the bench because everyone is needed.

The Guys Get Reunited

Tonight at 5 PM they will need as much of a full ship as they can get as they face the number one seed in the east, the Boston Celtics. Jayson Tatum is currently averaging 30 points, eight rebounds, and 4 assists. Against these numbers alone,  a San Antonio team that will be possibly lacking both leading scorers will need to rest up and return ready to fill in the gaps again.
