Tony Parker could miss Olympics due to eye injury

The French national team could face the 2012 Olympic basketball tournament without their leader – San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker.

Parker injured his eye during the recent nightclub brawl in New York City between Drake’s entourage and Chris Brown which resulted in a scratched cornea.

Now it seems the eye injury is worse than thought and could keep him out of the Olympics.

Parker said on his personal website that he is to return to the United States on July 5 for further tests, and has put his Olympic fate in the hands of his NBA employers.

“I will see a specialist in New York with the hope of obtaining an agreement to play in the Olympics,” Parker said.

“The Spurs are very worried. The decision is no longer mine. It is in the hands of the physician and San Antonio.”

Should TP not play for France, it would mean one serious blow to the team’s chance at a medal. And though representing his country is an honor any player would cherish, this is just a case of the Spurs and Parker being safe than sorry should they feel it’s best for him to sit out the London games.

I think I speak for Spurs fans when I say if this eye injury is worse, then TP should sit out of the Olympics and not put in jeopardy his status for next season.
