Spurs defeat Warriors to snap 4-game losing streak

AUSTIN – A fully healthy Austin Spurs squad was finally able to snap a 4-game losing streak, as they defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors on Sunday afternoon, 111-104.

Darrun Hilliard put up 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals to lead the Spurs. On assignment from San Antonio, rookie point guard Derrick White chipped in 22 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. And Livio Jean-Charles had 15 points in 24 minutes off the bench.

For Santa Cruz, Georges Niang had 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Cleanthony Early put up 19 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Damion Lee finished with 16 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Jeff Ledbetter made a successful return from injury to start the first quarter as he nailed two 3-pointers for the Spurs, leading them to an early 27-24 lead.

The Warriors closed the gap to one point before halftime, thanks in part to Niang’s nine points in the second quarter. But Olivier Hanlan buried a 3-pointer in transition at the buzzer to give Austin a 58-54 lead at intermission.

Hilliard started the second half looking for revenge as he scored 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting, pushing Austin’s lead to as much as 12 points.

Finally, Hilliard and White would combine to score 17 of Austin’s 24 fourth quarter points to end the losing streak, helping the Spurs secure their ninth win of the season.
