Sanikidze wants to stay in Europe

If any Spurs fans think forward Victor Sanikidze will ever be coming to the NBA, then they might want to stop holding their breath.

Sanikidze, who the San Antonio Spurs traded for with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2004 NBA Draft, will be a free agent at the end of Virtus Bologna’s season and said he would like to continue to play in the Euroleague despite saying the NBA is still a dream for him.

“Playing in the NBA is a dream but I would like to play the Euroleague as well. If we reach the best European competition with Virtus Bologna I am ready to stay. I am sure we can find an agreement”

Victor is averaging 13.1 points, 1.5 assists, 10.7 rebounds, shooting 61.1% from the field in 31.6 minutes for Bologna.

It would seem Sanikidze will be another player stashed overseas (such as Robertas Javtokas) the Spurs will never see wearing black and silver. Let’s just hope other quality players such as Nando De Colo, or Erazem Lorbek decide to make the leap to the NBA.
