While the Spurs have three first-round picks right now, they still have one in the second round that should not be overlooked. It could be an excellent opportunity for a secret project the Spurs staff could undertake. For such a project, look no further than 6-foot-7, 210-pound wingman Hyunjung Lee.

The Davidson product’s favorite players are Klay Thompson and Steph Curry and he loves them so much that he only looked at Washington State or Davidson for school. He shoots and moves like Thompson with potential to become the next one if he can put some extra pounds on his frame and get a little quicker. Here are his stats from the season.

  • 15.8 PPG, 0.7 SPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.9 APG
  • 47.4 FG%, 38.1 3P%, 77.7 FT%
  • 21.8 PER, 118.2 ORtg, 100.4 DRtg

The Davidson junior is not likely a first-round pick, but he has one clear skill that makes him valuable. He is a pure shooter. He can’t quite create his own shot all that often, but he is excellent using screens and running off-ball. He uses screens well with and without the ball and doesn’t need a lot of space to get his shot off. His ceiling could certainly be something close to a Klay Thompson.

While Lee is an excellent shooter, he can also attack closeouts pretty well. He’s able to pull up off the dribble and shoot over the top of defenders thanks to his size. He’s a tough player and rarely gets outworked by other guys on the court. Last year he was in the 50/40/90 club for shooting percentages so it’s not unreasonable to think he’ll immediately shoot well at the next level.

Offense is the calling card for Lee, but he will have to work on his defense if he wants to stay in the league. He is a solid athlete, but not one who will jump out of the gym or blow you away with what he can do. He will have to get stronger to get through screens and to contend with some of the bigger wings in the league.
