A few days ago, FoxSportsSouthwest.com put a list together called “Mavericks: Did you know?” The list revealed 10 things most people didn’t know about the 2010-2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks.
The number one, “Did you know?” on the list revealed that before game six of round one (versus Portland), the team decided to hold a players only dinner at a restaurant. At the dinner, the veteran players spoke on what motivated them from the past in order to prevent themselves from failing again.
Peja Stojakovic discussed his series early in his career against the Lakers, Jason Kidd discussed his series against the Lakers in 2001 and Dirk Nowtizki and Jason Terry revealed their loss in 2006 against the Heat as their worst.
One Mavs’ player who made an interesting remark was Shawn Marion:
Shawn Marion talked about the 2007 series with the Spurs when Amare Stoudemire’s suspension kept them from advancing to the finals.
It’s interesting to see that Marion still recalled that 2007 series as his best chance at the title before Sunday.
I’m pretty sure the San Antonio Spurs’ current players will use the freshly marked round one loss as fuel for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. Will the fact that they got bounced with the best record by an eight seed be on their minds or will the fact that they lost with a broken-armed Manu Ginobili be on their minds?
