Report: Magic eyeing Spurs’ Lindsey for GM spot

While the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder get set to kick things off tonight in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, the Orlando Magic are hoping to scoop up that winning formula and bring it to their team.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Orlando is looking at Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey, along with Thunder’ Troy Weaver and Rob Hennigan, to fill the GM position left vacant by Otis Smith.

Thunder vice president and assistant general manager Troy Weaver and Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey have been targeted, and Orlando has been granted permission to talk with Weaver, sources said. The Spurs’ OK of permission for Lindsey is imminent, sources said.

Orlando has also been granted permission to speak with Oklahoma City’s assistant GM Rob Hennigan, who came into the league with the Spurs.

Should Lindsey end up taking the job in Orlando, he would have a tall task ahead of him.

Dwight Howard is signed through next season but his long-term future is still in doubt. There are reports Orlando will trade him and reports that say they will make efforts to keep him. However, with no head coach and a salary-cap that’s wrecked, Lindsey would have a long road to hoe to get the Magic back to contention.

However, this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. The Spurs have built a culture of winning, have the titles to back it up, and have produced many successful front off personal such as Thunder’s Sam Presti, Hornets’ head coach Monty Williams, and many others.
