A lot goes into planning out strategy for an NBA game. There’s scouting reports, analysis and pregame preparations among other things. Just 
like getting ready for war, the players and coaches have to be in the right mindset before heading onto the court.
Right?
Well, according to Utah Jazz beat reporter Brian T. Smith, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich doesn’t really buy into that. Smith asked Pop about his “Keys to the Game” against the most recent game against the Utah Jazz and posted Pop’s response on Twitter.
“It’s all bullshit. … Just make it up and say I said it.”
Isn’t that just like the Pop we’ve all come to know and love? Surely there’s a little more preparation that went into that game than he would lead us to believe. Or maybe not. Who knows how Pop really thinks. Maybe he really did go into that game planning on “winging it,” or maybe he just didn’t want to deal with a Jazz reporter, or maybe he just thought the question was stupid.
Either way, Pop must have had some sort of game plan. Even if the Spurs lost the game, they were playing without Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan, and the bench players managed to push the Jazz all the way until the end.
Plan or not, one thing always stays the same. When dealing with reporters, coach Pop is always good for a laugh. That or he is sitting out the Spurs’ star players creating a firestorm of debate.
