NEW YORK CITY – New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire is teaming up with Excedrin for the “What’s Your Headache?”
After the surprise, and a game of one-on-one with the contest winner, Amar’e took some time to speak with me about his favorite memories from the San Antonio Spurs-Phoenix Suns rivalry which he was a huge part of.
Needless to say, his fondest memories about facing the Spurs are moments Spurs fans may want to forget:
Jeff: When you were playing in the West, you had many classic battles against the San Antonio Spurs and Tim Duncan. What’s probably your best memory of that matchup?
Amar’e: Oh man the Western Conference Finals. I was on a scoring tear. I averaged like 38 (points) a series. I broke George’s (Gervin) record. So I can tell my son that. I think that’s probably the best memory so far. Another one is that when we swept the Spurs. They beat us so many years in a row to now, my last year in Phoenix, we actually swept them. That’s another great memory.
Jeff: You miss those classic matchups? Phoenix-San Antonio.
Amar’e: (smiles) Oh Phoenix-San Antonio, Phoenix-Lakers, Phoenix-Dallas. ESPN Instant Classic games.
Friend of Project Spurs, John Karalis from Reds Army, joined me at the event and took this video. Check out the video of the rest of the Amar’e interview where he answers John’s question on the state of the big men in the NBA now that Shaq has retired, and Duncan will be sailing off soon and much more:
