CEDAR PARK – Midway through the third quarter the Rio Grande Valley Vipers went on a 10-2 run to extend their lead over the Austin Spurs to 18 points.

It all unraveled from there for the Vipers, as the Spurs completed the incredible comeback en route to winning by a final score of 123-112.

Derrick White, on assignment from San Antonio, shredded the Vipers with 38 points on 13-of-19 shooting. White also supplied Austin with six rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks.

A few other notables for the Spurs: Jaron Blossomgame tallied 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Nick Johnson finished with 17 points, four assists and three steals. Meanwhile, Brandon Paul, who was also on assignment from the Spurs, finished with 12 points and four assists.

The duo of RJ Hunter and Monte Morris combined for 23 points each last night. Morris also added in eight rebounds, eights assists and four steals for the Vipers.

Former Texas Longhorns guard Julien Lewis chipped in 17 points in 31 minutes, while forward Chris Walker finished with 13 points and five rebounds.

The near-capacity crowd inside the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park was treated to a pretty bland first half of basketball.

Rio Grande Valley started off strong by shooting 68 percent from the field, giving them an early 32-24 lead.

Austin’s offense began to click a little better in the second quarter, as Derrick White paced the team with seven points in the period. But Morris was just as hot from the field as his 11 points in the second quarter led the Vipers to a 63-53 halftime advantage.

Apparently Derrick White drank from the bottle labeled “Michael’s Secret Stuff” at halftime. His 22 points in the third quarter came on 8-of-8 shooting from the field which allowed the Spurs to cut RGV’s 18 point lead into a two point deficit to end the third.

In the fourth quarter, Blossomgame carried out his own offensive assault as his 10 points in the quarter fueled the Spurs to the 11 point victory.
