An idea came to me a little over two years ago. As founder of ProjectSpurs.com, I wanted to start offering our readers some Austin Toros content.
As a Spurs fan, I’ve seen several players come up from the Toros, including two that may have chance to make the team this year in Curtis Jerrells and Alonzo Gee.
To get an even closer look at some of the players in Austin that could wear the silver & black one day, and to give our readers the best Toros coverage possible, I decided it was best to start a new blog.
Since the Spurs season ended, I’ve been hard at work assembling a great writing staff, thinking up site names, building the website and getting things ready for today, launch day, and I’m very excited to be doing something that has been in the works and part of my goals for the past few years.
Toros Nation will be a sister site to Project Spurs and part of the Project Spurs Network.
Here at Toros Nation (hat tip to Jeff Garcia for the name), we’ll have regularly-updated content four-to-five times a week including latest news, rumors, features, game recaps, exclusive interviews and multimedia from the players and coaches.
As part of the multimedia offerings will be the Toros Nation podcast twice a month. Jeff Cerda, who also writes for Project Spurs will be my co-host as we discuss all the latest from the Toros. You can listen to our first podcast later today.
I mentioned the great staff we have earlier, but allow me to introduce them.
Jeff Cerda, as I said earlier, will be serving as a staff writer and co-host of the podcast. He is a San Marcos resident, Spurs and Toros fan and attended more Toros games last season than anyone else on staff. He is also a contributor to Project Spurs.
DeAnn Faught is an Austin resident, who, as she says, practically lives at the Cedar Park Center. She covers the Austin Stars for Hockey Quarterly and writes about all sports on her blog The Sports 007.
Catherine Benavidez is a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, is originally from San Antonio and loves to write. She’ll be focusing on feature posts and recaps twice a week for Toros Nation.
