Weekend Recap: Spurs split back-to-back prior to All-Star break

TEXAS – The Austin Spurs wanted to earn their All-Star break this season…and what better way to earn it than by scheduling back-to-back games within 20 hours of each other?

The Spurs went 1-1 versus the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Iowa Wolves this weekend as they retained first place in the Western Conference.

Here’s your weekend recap.

SATURDAY | AUSTIN: 98, RIO GRANDE VALLEY: 109 | HIDALGO, TX

Down in the valley,
The Spurs could not score,
Jeff put up 23,
But the Spurs played poor.

The Vipers were not kind to the silver and black on Saturday as an uninspired third quarter by Austin cost them a victory against their division rivals.

Jeff Ledbetter led the Spurs with 23 points, while Jaron Blossomgame had 20 points and seven rebounds.

SUNDAY | AUSTIN: 89, IOWA: 87 | CEDAR PARK, TX

After Saturday’s loss, Austin made the 320-mile trek back home for a matinee against the Iowa Wolves, narrowly securing the victory.

Nick Johnson put up a game-high 23 points to go along with four rebounds and six assists, while Livio Jean-Charles continued his tear with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

The Spurs led by as much as 10 points in the second half before Iowa cut it down to two points with a minute left in the game. But neither team scored down the stretch, letting Austin hang on for the victory.
