Cory Jefferson has departed for the Philippine Basketball Association, but Hollis Thompson has returned to Austin, as the Spurs attempt to sustain their playoff hopes. Let’s catch up on this weekend’s action.

Friday, Mar. 17
AUSTIN SPURS: 112, Windy City Bulls: 108

Austin’s road trip continued in Chicago this weekend, as the Spurs went to visit their old friend Jarell Eddie and his Bulls squad.

With Jefferson’s departure, expectations for how the Spurs would perform were tepid. Luckily in Jefferson’s absence, Orlando Johnson found himself on the receiving end of more shots.

Johnson led the way with 29 points and five rebounds for the silver and black. Livio Jean-Charles finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks. Meanwhile, Ryan Arcidiacono and Charles Garcia both chipped in 15 points each.

Several turnovers nearly allowed the Windy City Bulls to mount a full comeback after being down by as much as 12 points in the third quarter, but the Spurs stayed hot from the field all night long, finish with 112 points on 58 percent shooting.

Sunday, Mar. 19
AUSTIN SPURS: 110, Fort Wayne Mad Ants: 88

It was a total team effort for the Spurs on Sunday afternoon, as six players scored in double digits.

Jean-Charles and Johnson both led the team with 17 points each, but the bench mob did most of the damage for Austin. Daniel Nwaelele had 16 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes. Hollis Thompson stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists. And Charles Garcia added in 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

The game was tightly contested throughout, minus the second quarter. Austin put up an insane 39 points in the second, behind 14 points from Nwaelele, to take an 18 point lead into halftime and never looked back.

Up Next:
One more game remains on the road trip as the Austin Spurs (21-23) could have their playoff hopes ended with a loss versus the Iowa Energy (11-33). Tipoff is on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CST from the Wells Fargo Arena.
