Update: Ginobili optimistic about pre-Olympic tourney

As we reported earlier, Argentina’s national team has hit a snag in filling its roster with NBA talent thanks to the NBA lockout.

Argentina, among others, is looking for ways to insure their talent before the start of next month’s FIBA Americas Championship in Mar Del Plata, Argentina.

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili today said he doesn’t expect the insurance issue to be a problem or for it to keep players from joining their teams. He said the only issue that remains is how much insurance and under what conditions, but it’s likely not enough to keep him from joining his Olympic gold medal teammates of Luis Scola, Carlos Delfino and Andres Nocioni.

Ginobili will also be reunited with former Spurs center Fabricio Oberto, something he said was spectacular news and would make the Argentine team better.

That move alone should make for an even more interesting tournament, increasing the chances of near-decapitating Ginobili to Oberto assists.
