The University of Notre Dame hockey team will be the No. 3 seed at the 2022 NCAA Albany Regional and will face No. 2 seed North Dakota at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 24 in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Championship at MVP Arena. The Notre Dame (27-11-0) meets second-seed North Dakota (24-13-1) in the second semifinal at the Albany Regional.

UND men’s hockey vs Notre Dame Frozen Four 2022 Preview

UND has 84 man games missed this season due to injuries, illnesses and three one-game suspensions. It has played four games without a full lineup of 19 skaters. The only players on the roster who have suited up in every game are forwards Judd Caulfield, Jake Schmaltz and Nick Portz.

Second-seeded North Dakota (24-13-1) and No. 3 seed Notre Dame (27-11-0) face each other in the Albany, New York, Regional of NCAA tournament on Thursday. Western Michigan stunned North Dakota 4-2 in the NCHC tournament on March 18, but the Fighting Hawks bring an experienced crew to the NCAA tournament. North Dakota last won it all in 2016 and hasn’t been back to the Frozen Four since in three tournament appearances.

This will be the 12th NCAA Tournament bid for the Irish since 2004. Notre Dame’s last tournament team lost in the regional final to the UMass Minutemen. The last time the Irish made the Frozen Four was in 2018 when they lost in the national championship to Minnesota-Duluth.
