Both of these teams last played on December 21, so it’s been a week since these two teams have been on the court in a competitive game. Surely they have been practicing a bit, but we could see some rust needing to be knocked off after some holiday cheer taking place in between games.

UConn Basketball vs Xavier Game Info

What: UConn vs Xavier Basketball
When: Tuesday, Dec. 28th, 7:00 pm (EST)
Where: Cintas Center, Cincinnati, OH
Watch Anywhere: Gamepass, FS1

UConn’s last game was a nice win over Marquette while Xavier had the chance to make a statement with a win over Villanova. However, they fell flat in the second half and lost by 13 despite being up eight at halftime. Xavier is a much better team than that and the Musketeers are going to play to prove that.

Xavier has been a pretty solid defensive team so far this season, allowing only 62 points a game. The Musketeers have also kept teams to under 39 percent shooting from the floor overall and under 31 percent shooting from beyond the arc. They also don’t foul too often at less than 15 a game.

UConn is an excellent rim protecting team, averaging 6.6 blocks per game and only allowing teams to shoot 41.2 percent from inside the arc. The offense is pretty good too, especially if the game turns into a bit of a slog. UConn averages almost 17 free throws a game and can rely on getting to the charity stripe if the rest of its offense starts to falter.

The big matchup in this game should be Xavier’s Jack Nunge against UConn’s Adama Sanogo. Both big men are playing well this season and both are averaging at least 1.5 blocks a game. Undoubtedly, we will see some sweet swats in this game and if those two play to a stalemate, you can bet this matchup will be decided by guard play.
