Training Camp Profile: Desmon Farmer

The Spurs started training camp with a few new faces. As we did last season, we’ll profile one player per day to give you an inside look at the players competing to wear the silver and black.

Desmon Farmer

 Born: October 7th, 1981
Height: 6’5
Weight: 215 lbs.
College: Southern California

Desmon Farmer was signed by the Spurs as a Training Camp Invitee to fill the maximum roster for Training Camp. He is very well traveled as a player to only be 26 years old, as he has played in Spain, Poland and Greece, while also having two stints in the NBA and one stint NBA D-League. His first stint was with the Indiana Pacers in 2004 as an undrafted Training Camp invite. But he was cut before the season started and he made his way over to Europe for several years. Then he returned to the NBA in 2006, this time with the SuperSonics. Farmer lasted through training camp this time, but ended up being cut in January. Farmer has since played the last three seasons in the D-League, averaging 16.3 ppg on 45% shooting and 39% from three in his three years there. Farmer graduated from USC in 2004 and went undrafted in the 2004 Draft.

Desmon Farmer definitely is a dark-horse to make the team, seeing as we just don’t know enough about him to know what to expect. He is a young, athletic guard who can score the ball, and play defense, but this is based off of D-League stats and film and no one knows how he will play in training camp. I’m sure there has to be some reason he hasn’t made an NBA squad yet. I’m pulling for Desmon because I think he can help us down the road. I’m just not sure that’s what Pop is looking for.
