The Spurs have started training camp with a few new faces, and as we did last season, we’ll profile one player per day to give you an inside look at the players competing to wear the silver and black.

Gaines seems to have been flying under the radar for some time now, which should help us all understand why he was signed. While starting all 57 games he played in at Southern Mississippi, he earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors. He has spent several years in Europe, most recently in the Turkish TBL League with Galatasaray Cafecrown, while posting over 12 points and 7 rebounds per game.
With so little known about him, it seems as though Gaines is just here for training camp, someone to put on the floor while younger players rest, and the established vets wear street clothes. There is always the chance that the Spurs have found a diamond in the rough, but what we have here appears to be exactly what we see, a body for the roster. I wouldn’t count on seeing him around too long.
