Toros’ Players Hope to Shine at D-League Showcase

It’s that time of the year again where all the teams in the D-League gather in South Padre Island, TX and battle it out on the hardwood in a four-day span. During this time each team will play two games.

The main goal of the showcase for each player is to show the NBA scouts and front office personnel that they have what it takes to play at the next level. A pair of good games could be their meal ticket to a 10-day contract or being signed by a team for the rest of the season.

Though winning games seems to be the main team objective at the showcase, many players have individual goals to accomplish while at the showcase.

“I hope to accomplish a great deal of things… developing that winning attitude that the Toros have had since I have been in the league, network, play hard, and build on my future” said Toros veteran Michael Joiner.

The Toros hopes to snap their six game losing streak tomorrow against the Dakota Wizards. For those of you interested in catching the Toros on the road, set your DVR as it will be broadcasted on NBA TV at 12 p.m. EST. The Toros will close out the showcase Thursday night at 8:15 EST against the Bakersfield Jam. In their first match-up of the season, Squeaky Johnson had 20 points and five rebounds to lead the Toros to a 103-99 home victory against the Jam.

“I wanna be over aggressive and help my team regain confidence, [sic]” said Carldell “Squeaky” Johnson.
