Toros drop second consecutive game against Delaware

Despite a late surge after being down by double digits for most of the second half, the Austin Toros lost to the Delaware 87ers, 91-87.

The Toros started hot, owning a 24-18 lead after the first quarter led by Josh Howard’s 10 first quarter points. He finished the game with a team-high 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting.

Delaware went on a 10-0 run in the first quarter. Courtney Fells converted on an and-1 opportunity to break the 24-24 tie for the Toros with 9:32 left in the second.

Austin extended their lead to five, but the 87ers finished the half on a 23-10 run to reclaim the 47-38 halftime lead.

Delaware extended the lead to 16 points in the third, as they took a 72-61 advantage into the fourth quarter. The Toros were able to cut the lead to two, 89-87, after Howard converted two free throws with 31 seconds left. Delaware scored on the ensuing possession. Myck Kabogo missed a 3-pointer, giving Delaware their second consecutive victory over Austin.

Eric Dawson had another double-double with 14 points and a game-high 17 boards. He was one of four Toros to finish with double digit points along with Howard (19), Fells (15) and Luke Zeller (12). Kabongo finished the game with eight assists and three turnovers.

Austin looks to bounce back when they tip-off against the Tulsa 66ers this Friday, January 31 in Cedar Park.
