Three thoughts from the Spurs’ preseason win over Memphis

The San Antonio Spurs closed out the preseason with a 104-91 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in their preseason finale at the AT&T Center on Friday night.

In case you missed it, here are three thoughts from the Spurs win over Memphis:

DeRozan from 3

DeMar DeRozan had a career year in his first season with the Spurs and if Friday night is any indication, he may outdo that in 2019-20. DeRozan had 14 points on the night but the biggest area to notice was his three-point shooting.

DeRozan went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and if he can keep that up on a consistent basis, the Spurs will likely outperform expectations this season.

Rudy’s ready

The Spurs gave Rudy Gay a few days off while he dealt with a lingering hamstring injury and it looks to have paid off. Gay came off the bench and scored 13 points, going 3-for-6 from three point range.

After some rest and a nice outing at the office, Rudy is ready for another season with the Silver and Black.

Improved defense

The biggest issues for the Spurs this preseason was their defense, or their lack of. Friday night’s win saw the club put together their best defensive effort. They held the Grizzlies below 100 points and 34 percent shooting.

UP NEXT:

The Spurs will open the 2019-20 regular season on Wednesday night when the New York Knicks visit the AT&T Center at 7:30 p.m. Central Time.
