SAN ANTONIO – For the second straight game, the San Antonio Spurs needed overtime to get another win.

Marco Belinelli’s three-pointer with 4.1 seconds remaining forced overtime and the Spurs earned a 105-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings (8-13) at the AT&T Center on Friday night.

The win is the second straight for San Antonio, who won back-to-back games for the first time since October. Since losing 12 of their last 14 games, the Spurs have now won three of their last four.

“They executed the play really well and Marco [Belinelli] came off wide open and he knocked it down,” Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich said after the game.

Five Spurs were in double figures, led by LaMarcus Aldridge’s 19 points. DeMar DeRozan had 15 points and 10 rebounds but shot just 35 percent. Dejounte Murray added 14 points and seven assists, providing hard-nosed defense in the overtime period.

He may not have had the best start to the season but Marco Belinelli showed everyone why he is nicknamed “the professional” in Friday’s win.

Belinelli came off the bench to score 11 points, going 3-for-4 from three, including his game-tying 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation. He added a couple of rebounds and an assist to his stat line, proving that patience is a virtue and why Pop trusts him so much.

“He loves those situations,” Popovich said. “He always has for his whole career, so we went to him and he came through.”

The Spurs’ big man returned to the lineup and quickly showed how his impact in the middle was missed the last two games after recovering from a sore thigh.

Aldridge had 19 points and 13 rebounds in his return to action as he helped anchor the post with Rudy Gay in the starting five. He and Jakob Poeltl played well together in the times they were on the court and overall LMA did not miss a beat in his return to the court.

Patty Mills

The Australian guard and fan-favorite had a solid game off the bench and led the Spurs’ second unit in scoring.

Mills finished with 13 points on 45 percent shooting from the floor to go along with five assists in two steals. He may have gone 1-for-3 in the final quarter from the free-throw line but he made up for it with solid defense.

UP NEXT:

The Spurs are now 9-14 on the season and will return to the court next Wednesday when they welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers (5-16) to the AT&T Center at 7:30 p.m.

  1. I remember why I don’t come to this site anymore, the takes are horrible. Dejounte had 14pts, 7reb, 3ast, 3stl, made the game winner, provided lockdown D, and you pick Patty Mills as a standout. SMH.
