They said it: Favorite quotes of 2010-11 Spurs season part 1

One of the perks of covering the San Antonio Spurs last season was getting to know more about the people behind the silver and black jerseys. Sometimes when interviewing players, you recognize something they say as special, so you wan’t see any canned answers or quotes here. These are a few of my favorite quotes from my interviews last season.

Antonio McDyess
“I don’t know what my role will be, but whatever it is I’m going to take it and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be totally different than what it was last year. A guy like (Tiago Splitter), he’ll definitely have to be on the court so I’ll take a backseat to him any day because he’s a heck of a player.”

Tony Parker
“You miss five games and they think you retire. It was the same thing with Manu, everyone wanted to get rid of Manu last year and that’s crazy, you cant get rid of Manu, Manu is one of the best players in the NBA.”

Manu Ginobili

On his twins Dante and Nicola:
“Every time they smile at you it’s a win. Every time you find a new word that makes them laugh, you keep going with it. They’ll receive the TD (jersey) before mine.”

George Hill
On being ready to take over as a starting point guard:
“I’m not at that level yet. I do all I can to get there some day but right now there’s a lot of things to learn and get better on. As long as (Tony is) here, I’m going to soak up a lot of knowledge from him, because he’s still Tony Parker, one of the greatest point guards in the NBA and a Finals MVP so you can’t take that away from him.”

Come back later this week for part two of my favorite quotes including some lost quotes from the 2010-2011 Spurs’ season.
