The young-led Spurs continue to grow through the highs and lows, faced with a three-game slate this week.

The San Antonio Spurs (10-16) were able to snag a 112-97 victory this past Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans and although the score foreshadows the squad cruised their way to an easy win, it wasn’t till the fourth quarter when the Spurs outscored the Pels 29-15 to bring home a dub.

In this game, they were able to rebound, get an all-around team effort and take their frustrations out on the Pelicans, after dropping a game the night before to the Denver Nuggets 127-112.

Off their tenth victory the season, the young squad who sits under .500 still and are positioned near the bottom of the Western Conference, were able to inch closer to getting head coach Gregg Popovich the all-time winning record, which now sits sixteen games away.

Their record may not be pleasing to die-hard fans who were accustomed to a winning culture every year, the team has begun to grow before our eyes, and before you know it, the Spurs will be contending once again.

From early observations, some of those players who have grown the most so far this season have been Dejounte Murray, Devin Vassell, Jakob Poeltl, Keldon Johnson, and Tre Jones. Additionally, Derrick White has been regaining his form after a rough early start, and flashes from San Antonio’s “golden-child” Josh Primo aka Primo Picks has fans pleading for more minutes for him.

Below I give you the preview and predictions for the Spurs three-game week:

San Antonio Spurs vs Charlotte Hornets

Date: December 15, 2021, 7:30 P.M. CT
Arena: AT&T Center
Broadcast: CW35

The Spurs host LaMelo Ball and the Hornets (15-13) Wednesday night and look to build off momentum towards another win streak, ride with confidence into a four-game road trip that bleeds into next week.

So far this season, the Hornets have been led by electric point guard LaMelo Ball who continues to mesmerize fans with his overall game, and from forward Miles Bridges, who has been giving out posters left and right like if he were Oprah giving out free items to her crowd.

The matchup from this game I’m eyeing is LaMelo versus Dejounte

Prediction: Spurs pull one out and hit the road on a two-game winning streak.

San Antonio Spurs vs Utah Jazz

Date: December 17, 2021, 8:00 P.M. CT
Arena: Vivint Center
Broadcast: KENS 5
Live Stream: SilverandBlack.TV

Off two games of rest, the Spurs head to Salt Lake City to battle the Utah Jazz (19-7) Friday night and are faced with tough matchups that include guard Donovan Mitchell and all-NBA defensive center Rudy Gobert.

During last year’s season series, the Spurs went 0-3, losing all three games by a wide margin and this game will be the first of three matchups for this season, so it should be interesting to see if the Spurs can flip those losses to victories with a different makeup of the team.

The matchup of this game should be White versus Mitchell who has grown to be one of the NBA’s transcending young stars.

Prediction: Spurs drop this one and head to Sacramento licking their wounds after a tough bout with one of the top-Western Conference teams.

San Antonio Spurs vs Sacramento Kings

Date: December 19, 2021, 5:00 P.M. CT
Arena: Golden 1 Center
Broadcast: Bally Sports Southwest
Live Stream: SilverandBlack.TV

After dropping a close one with the Jazz, the Spurs get back into action against the Kings, who the Spurs beat earlier this season 136-117.

In an earlier preview, I previewed the Spurs-Kings’ first matchup and gave players to look out for, and predicted a loss for the team. To start off, I was wrong about the prediction, as the team pulled off a victory to begin that week, but still am a firm believer at the players who the team should look out for.

Initially, I chose Holmes versus Eubanks/Jock, or Young, but this time around I will stick around and say Holmes versus Poeltl, who should be able to keep Holmes quiet throughout the night.

The one player the team surely will have their eyes on is point Guard De’Aaron Fox who can get the offense running-running if given the chance, so surely the backcourt will have their hands full Sunday night.

In this game, I predict another high-scoring affair, but the Spurs should be able to pull out this victory.

Overall Season Prediction: 10-15
