Gale Sayers, a famous name among the greatest running backs of all times, put his name in history when he miraculously scored six touchdowns in one game against the San Francisco 49ers back in December 1965. This outstanding performance landed him a record of the most touchdowns scored in a single game in NFL history.
The Rumble in the Jungle
This title refers to a historic fight that took place between the great Mohammad Ali and George Foreman, the undefeated world heavyweight champion. It took place on October 30th, 1974. Millions of people all over the world watched as Mohammad Ali took away the title from Foreman by winning the match with a knockout in the 8th round. This was a huge moment in history with a crowd of 60,000 watching the match inside the arena.
1936 Olympics
Jesse Owens made history when he won 4 gold medals (for the 100m and 200m runs, long jump and 4x100m relay) in the 1936 Olympics, breaking down all the barriers that were deliberately set to prevent him from participating in the games. Owens also put Hitler’s ideology of Aryan supremacy to utter shame.
The Hand of God
This title refers to a moment in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final when Argentina played against England. Diego Maradona scored two decisive goals, one of which he did with his hand but, unfortunately for the English, went unnoticed by the referee. This moment began to be referred to as the Hand of God assisting Maradona.
His second goal was no less historic and was dubbed the Goal of the Century. He ran past the English defense line, fooling the keeper and finishing with a beautiful touch.
Fight of the Century
The Fight of the Century refers to one of the greatest moments in the history of boxing when Mohammad Ali met Joe Frazier in a match on March 7th,1971. Both these boxing giants were undefeated champions. The fight carried on for 15 rounds, with Frazier winning in the end. The same fight happened again twice, and Mohammad Ali came out victorious each time.
8 Gold Medals
Michael Phelps broke all records when he won 8 gold medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Previously, the record was held by Mark Spitz who had won 7 gold medals. Phelps, in the process of winning these gold medals, set seven world records, making him one of the greatest swimmers this world has ever seen.
The Bolt Strike
Back in August 2008, during the Summer Olympics in China, Usain Bolt became the first man to win the 100m and 200m races in world-record time. If that’s not enough, he also managed to earn another world-record title running in the 4x100m relay race for his country Jamaica.
Tiger Woods
On June 18th, 2000 in Pebble Beach, California, Tiger Woods dominated the field and won the third big championship of his career. He also set a new record in the tournament which was previously held by Tom Morris since 1862.
