Austin Spurs Preview

With a rebuild looking likely for the big-league club, Austin’s performances will be of interest to many Spurs fans this season. The G League roster has some intriguing pieces at all three levels of the court. The guard combination of Jalen Adaway and Tommy Kuhse is one to watch as both were in San Antonio for the preseason. While the NBA squad seems set at the guard position, for the most part, the organization does seem to really like them both enough to sign them with Austin. Fans may remember seeing both on the roster during the preseason, where Kuhse had appearances against the Magic and Pelicans, averaging six points. Adaway is a 6’5″ undrafted rookie from St. Bonaventure who could be an intriguing developmental prospect for the Spurs to work with.

Austin also has some quality depth in terms of forwards, headlined by players like Dominick Barlow and Alize Johnson. At 6’9″, Barlow is a decent-sized forward who could make a current impact with the Spurs as he is on a two-way contract along with center Charles Bassey. Locals of San Antonio and Central Texas should recognize Bassey’s name. He played locally at St. Anthony’s High School in the Alamo City and, recently signed with his hometown team. Bassey played 23 games with the Philadelphia 76ers last season and is a physical rebounding specimen. The makeup of the team can really be a contending force in the Showcase Cup. It is unknown yet if Barlow and Bassey will be available as they played on Wednesday with San Antonio who are dealing with a number of injuries.

Texas Legends Preview

The Legends will hope to have the same success that their NBA affiliate, the  Dallas Mavericks, is having. Their big name on the roster is guard Jaden Hardy, who last season played for the NBA G League Ignite. Hardy is a 6’3″, 198lb guard who has explosiveness for days and can make plays happen. He will pair well with fellow newcomer Tra-Deon Hollins and the returning Olin Carter. The roster is considered by some to be a bit undersized, especially at the center position. James Banks is the tallest option on the Legends at 6’10”. Both organizations will be up for this clash, given it being a new season and new eras for both teams.
