Spurscast: Jakob Poeltl Trade Rumor

In Spurscast episode 654, Spurscast host Paul Garcia and Project Spurs writer Collin Reid discuss:

  • The Spurs’ different cap space scenarios going into free agency

11 Players Projected to be on Guaranteed Deals

The San Antonio Spurs will go into the offseason with eight players on guaranteed contracts next season in Dejounte Murray, Doug McDermott, Josh Richardson, Jakob Poeltl, Romeo Langford, Devin Vassell, Josh Primo, and Keldon Johnson.

The Spurs will also have three first round picks with their projected 9th lottery pick, the 20th pick from Toronto, and the 25th pick from Boston. From now until the Spurs draft and then sign a player with those picks or trade the pick, the picks have cap holds on the Spurs’ salary sheet going into the offseason. So when you combine the three picks with the eight players on guaranteed deals, that’s a projected 11 players on guaranteed deals.

4 Players with Partially/Non-Guaranteed Deals

Four Spurs players will enter the offseason with partially or non-guaranteed deals in Zach Collins (partial guarantee), Tre Jones, Keita Bates-Diop, and Jock Landale.

Each players salary and guarantee date are discussed in the episode, as well as early predictions as to whether the Spurs will keep the player on the roster next season or waive the player in the offseason.

5 Players Entering Free Agency

Five Spurs players will be entering free agency in Lonnie Walker IV, Joe Wieskamp, Devontae Cacok, DJ Stewart Jr., and Robert Woodard II. The Spurs can make any of these players restricted free agents by tending the player a qualifying offer by June 29.

The Cap Space Projections

The Spurs will have multiple cap space projections to explore being able to open anywhere from $16 to $37 million in cap space depending on what decisions they make with the players on non-guaranteed deals and the players entering free agency.
