Spurscast: Jakob Poeltl Trade Rumor

In Spurscast episode 676, Spurscast host Paul Garcia is joined by Project Spurs director of digital content Joe Garcia. Paul and Joe discuss the Jakob Poeltl trade rumor along with these topics:

  • The Spurs in their last 4 games
  • Jeremy Sochan’s Start to the Season
  • Jakob Poeltl trade rumor

The Spurs in their last 4 games

The San Antonio Spurs have gone 1-3 in their last four games. They have a win at home against the number two seed Milwaukee Bucks. However, the team has suffered three losses on the road against the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, and Sacramento Kings.

Through 16 games, the Spurs are 6-10 with the 25th-ranked offense and 30th-ranked defense. The Spurs will continue their West Coast road trip Saturday against the Clippers and Sunday against the Lakers.

A Jakob Poeltl trade rumor

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN (via HoopsHype.com), the Boston Celtics have been mentioned as a team with interest in Spurs center Jakob Poeltl. Poeltl’s name in a trade rumor is not surprising. Poeltl is one of the few veterans on the young team and he’s in the final year of his contract.

In the episode, the foundations of what a Poeltl-to-Boston trade might look like are discussed.

Jeremy Sochan’s Start to the Season

Through 15 games of his rookie season, Jeremy Sochan is the starting four for San Antonio, averaging 25 minutes, eight points, four rebounds, and two assists (stats rounded).

At this point, Sochan has been very efficient in scoring near the rim. The rookie has made 31-of-42 shots in the restricted area. Sochan has been expected to struggle from deep. However, he’s at least taking wide-open threes late in possessions when it’s a last resort usually on a possession.

Sochan’s defensive versatility is discussed as where he stands in certain areas on the floor compared to other forwards around the league.
