In Spurscast episode 646, Spurscast host Paul Garcia and Project Spurs writer Benjamin Bornstein discuss:

  • The Spurs in the last four games
  • The latest trade rumors with the trade deadline two weeks away
  • Devin Vassell and Jakob Poeltl’s strong play lately

The Last Four Games

The San Antonio Spurs went 1-3 in their last four games, with losses to the Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Memphis Grizzlies. The Spurs’ lone win over the last four games was a blow out against the Houston Rockets.

Defense has been an issue for the team. The Spurs have maintained the 16th ranked offense over the last week, but they’ve slipped down to 19th on defense.

In other team news, Zach Collins is getting closer to his return to the team with more games played in Austin, while Keita Bates-Diop became the latest player on the team to enter health and safety protocols.

With Andrew Wiggins being selected as a Western Conference All-Star starter, Dejounte Murray‘s path to becoming an All-Star might have become more difficult.

Trade Rumors Two Weeks Before the Deadline

The latest trade rumors have the Spurs being interested in John Collins of the Atlanta Hawks again, the Hawks having interest in Derrick White, and teams calling the Spurs about Murray, White, and Jakob Poeltl.

The Spurs also reportedly have interest in Cedi Osman. All of these trade rumors are discussed in the episode.

Devin Vassell and Jakob Poeltl’s Strong Play Lately

In the month of January, Devin Vassell is averaging 14 points per game, making it his best scoring month of the season. Jakob Poeltl has been dominant in the paint in the last six games, averaging 18.7 points per game, with 15.6 of those points from the paint.

Vassell and Poeltl’s strong play lately and their seasons overall are discussed in the episode.
