Spurs Weekly Recap Week 19

Spurs 99 – Jazz 101

Without LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, and Rudy Gay, the Spurs could not pull out a win against the Utah Jazz Monday night as they fell 101-99. Kyle Anderson led the way for the Spurs with 16 points followed by Pau Gasol, who had 15 points and Danny Green’s 13 points.

Spurs 109 – Nuggets 117

Again without Aldridge, Leonard, and Gay, the Spurs fell to the Denver Nuggets 117-109. In a breakout game, Joffrey Lauvergne led the silver and black with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Tony Parker followed with 17 points and 4 assists.

Week in Review

The Spurs continued to struggle in week 19 as they lost two of their 6 games on the rodeo road trip during this week. Aldridge, who has led the way for the Spurs throughout the majority of the season, was absent in both games, which forced the Spurs to rely on other players for leadership.

Without the leadership of Aldridge, week 19 showed the unexpected, but much welcomed outstanding performance of Lauvergne. Lauvergne led the way for the Spurs against the Nuggets, but he also played a great game on Monday night against  the Jazz when he posted 10 points and 5 rebounds in 14 minutes.

Another interesting fact about week 19 was the return of both Parker and Dejounte Murray on Monday. In his return, Murray scored 12 points and 4 assists in 29 minutes. Parker put up 6 of his own and 2 assists in 16 minutes.

Looking Ahead

Going into the last two games of their rodeo road trip, the Spurs will once again face the Denver Nuggets on Friday. After that, they will go head-to-head with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.
