Spurs vs. Raptors Preview
The Raptors and Spurs have only met one time this year back at the beginning of the season in November. In this matchup, the Raptors had a huge offensive game defeating the Spurs by a score of 143-100.
The Spurs will once again be missing some key offensive players in this matchup with Jeremy Sochan, Romeo Langford, and Tre Jones out. In their last matchup against the Bulls, Keldon Johnson was able to lead the team with 21 points. However, Keldon Johnson is listed as questionable on the injury report due to an ankle injury. Malaki Branham has continued to have solid offensive nights filling in the PG role as he has averaged 21 points in his last three games. Branham will need to continue his high-scoring offensive performance if San Antonio wants a chance at an upset. With some help from Collins, McDermott, and Richardson, the Spurs will have a fighting chance in Toronto tonight.
The Raptors (25-30) are having a bit of an off-year, as they are six games behind their record last year at this time (31-23) and ranked number 11th in the Eastern Conference. They were a playoff team last year and were able to secure the number five spot in the East, although they would eventually fall in the first round to Philadelphia. The team has however been able to build up a two-game win streak and will look to extend that to three at home. The combo of Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam makes up a large part of the scoring for this offense. Gary Trent Jr. is another offensive threat for the Raptors as he has averaged a cool 18.7 points for the team this year. The Spurs will need to limit their offensive output to take down the -550 favored Raptors.
