Spurs vs. Jazz

In the last matchup of the February Rodeo Road Trip, the Spurs will have a chance at redemption against the Utah Jazz. The game will take place at 8 PM Central Time at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Spurs are still keeping their record-losing streak alive. 16 games. yes, you read that right. The Spurs have not won a game in over a month. Their last victory was on January 17th. Most recently, the Spurs fell to this Jazz team at the end of last week by a score of 118-102.

The Jazz however will look to continue their momentum against the Spurs. In fact, that one win pushed the Jazz up two spots right into the number eight seed. what separates them from that guaranteed playoff spot? Only one win. The Jazz are one game behind the 6th ranked Mavericks in the West.

Spurs vs. Jazz Preview

This will be the Spurs and Jazz’s third meeting of this season. As they stand, the two teams are currently 1-1 respectively against one another. The Spurs’ victory was back in December however when they had Devin Vassell and the rest of their line-up available.

The odds have slightly decreased in the Spurs’ favor compared to their last matchup against this team. However, the Jazz are still more than the four-to-one favorite on the matchup. Jeremy Sochan was able to lead the young guys in scoring putting up 22 points in the contest with Keldon Johnson in the second spot at 18. One of the biggest problems with this team is finishing the ball game (other than defense of course). They were beating the Jazz right out the gate, and finished the half with a 10-point lead. The third quarter? 0-9 from three. 14 points. Yes, the Spurs only scored 14 points in 12 minutes during the third quarter. They will need to come out strong once again but finish the second half strong if they want a win

As the middle of the pack is so bunched together, wins and losses come at a big cost. Only three games separate the number four team in the West and the number ten team in the West. The Jazz will look to continue their momentum from Saturday night. The ace of the night was Lauri Markkanen, who has really had a dominant season this year. The finnish hooper closed the game with 27 points against the Spurs. He would be the only player to record more than 20 points in the matchup for the Jazz. The defense should be focused on limiting his output.
