Spurs to use smart cards as ticket option

With all the technology available today, it’s no surprise that a new medium of ticket distribution has been created. One of the teams that has invested its funds in this new medium of technology is the San Antonio Spurs.

And now the Spurs will lead the charge in ticket distribution technology as the team will now offer their season ticket holders the option of having all of their tickets put into a smart card or the traditional route of printed tickets.

According to the Sports Business Journal, the Spurs gave their season ticket holders the option of receiving the traditional paper tickets to all 33 regular season home games (shortened season), or just having them all stored on a smart card.  The card can be scanned at the AT&T Center before each game and will keep track of what games you have been to.  Now that’s convenient.

Convenient indeed. Furthermore, a season ticket holder doesn’t have to give their card to someone to use the tickets. With the card, a season ticket holder can go online and email their tickets to anyone.

This is just one of the first ways of ticket distribution that will most likely continue to advance in the future. So if you’re a season ticket holder, look into this option if you plan on attending every home game this season.
