The San Antonio Spurs really showed out for the soldiers on Military Appreciation Night at the AT&T Center. San Antonio had the task of facing the Denver Nuggets who currently holds the number one rank in the Western Conference.

Their standing didn’t intimidate this Spurs squad. After falling to the Houston Rockets twice they make a complete turnaround and defeat the Denver Nuggets 120-128. This is the first game the Spurs were able to win after trailing by 15 points at some point in the matchup.

The Night of the Comeback

San Antonio fell short in the first quarter getting outscored by Denver by 12 points. They didn’t let the start keep them out of the game. They began to hunt down that 15-point lead in the second quarter to put themselves in a contending position for the win.

Coach Popovich was like a proud dad post-game and had this to say about the exciting win they were able to pull off. “It felt great. The fans were really into it. We put them to sleep, then we woke them up a little bit. So, it was great to have all those people there yelling and screaming. They deserve to have a good night.”

The leading scorer of the night was Keldon Johnson with 23 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Doug McDermott wasn’t too far behind him with 20 points and five rebounds. The reigning MVP Nikola Jokic possessed a triple-double at the end of the game. Not even his 37 points, 11 rebounds and assist could reel the Spurs in.

No Collins, No Problem, Mamus’ Got em’

Zach Collins was ejected from the game after being involved in a little scuffle with Nuggets small forward Michael Porter Jr. Collins was assessed two technical fouls which left newcomer Sandro Mamukelashvili to tie up loose ends with Jokic.

In Just his fourth game with the organization, Mamu has managed to make his mark on the team. He ended with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and thousands of new fans. Sandro expressed his gratitude for the Spurs nation and how their engagement motivated the pace of the game.

How do you feel about Mamu as a new addition to the Spurs squad? Perfect match or temporary piece to the puzzle.
