Spurs inquired about Cavs’ Casspi?

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the San Antonio Spurs looked into the availability of Cleveland Cavaliers’ Omri Casspi after he was traded from the Sacramento Kings:

PS: Word is Knicks/Spurs still hot for Casspi and checked in to see if they could wedge their way into last trade fun of 2010-11. But …

Cavs told ’em they traded for Casspi with intent to keep him. GM Chris Grant says Cavs have liked Casspi since Kings drafted him in 2009

This is not the first time Casspi was discussed involving the Spurs. In the recent Tony Parker trade rumors, the Spurs were rumored to trade Parker to the Kings, and Casspi’s name was mentioned as a trade piece.

If the report is true, then this could mean San Antonio is looking for another small forward, especially after the disappointing two seasons Richard Jefferson has had as a Spur.

However, Jefferson’s horrendous contract looms over any proposed deal which may turn away any NBA team looking to deal with the Spurs.

Still, the report does say the Cavs want to keep him and with the NBA lockout in full swing, the Spurs have to stand pat before any deals are made.

Thought Spurs fans? Should the Spurs continue to go after Casspi after the lockout is over?
