Spurs score highest point total of season in blowout win over Bighorns

CEDAR PARK – The Austin Spurs extended their winning streak to three games in impressive fashion as they destroyed the Reno Bighorns by a final score of 144-115.

Austin’s 144 points are the highest of the season, thanks to the team shooting an incredible 61 percent from the field for the game.

Six players scored in double figures for Austin led by Derrick White’s 26 points and six rebounds. Darrun Hilliard started off hot in the first half to finish with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists. And Jaron Blossomgame double-doubled with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Reno had seven players score in double digits but failed to match Austin’s firepower. David Stockton led the Bighorns with 23 points, while JaKarr Sampson had 19 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Harrison added in 15 points off the bench.

Austin seized control early on, nearly scoring 40 points in both the first and second quarters behind the duo of Hilliard and White.

A Stockton 3-pointer brought Reno within eight points before the half, but back-to-back bombs from Jeff Ledbetter and a buzzer beating three by Hilliard put the Spurs back up by 16 at halftime.

Coming out of the locker room at halftime, the Spurs struggled offensively in comparison to the other 36 minutes of basketball they played.

Austin only shot 55 percent from the field in the third led by White’s 10 points in the quarter, but still managed to extend their lead to 22 points.

In the final quarter the Spurs laid off the gas, but couldn’t miss a shot to prevent Reno from suffering further embarrassment, as Austin secured the 29-point victory.

Not only were Austin’s 144 points tonight the most this season, but it was also the highest total scored by the Spurs since the 2014-15 season when Austin scored 147 and 149 points in two separate games.

The opponent in those two games? The Reno Bighorns.
