The San Antonio Spurs are looking rough and like they might be out of the playoff picture altogether. That would leave them with a lottery pick as they are sitting on the outside looking in as the season is winding down. That means expectations are shifting and the Spurs could be getting an immediate impact player rather than a potential project now.

This week’s prospect to watch is Texas A&M big man Robert Williams. The 6-foot-10, 241-pound forward was originally featured in our Prospects Not to Watch post, but of course that was for guys who would go early in the draft. Since the Spurs might be picking there, it’s time to take a serious look at Williams.

Here are some of his stats:

  • 10.3 PPG, 2.5 BPG, 9 RPG, 1.4 APG
  • 62 FG%, 46.9 FT%
    • Per-40 stats:
      • 16 PPG, 3.9 BPG, 14 RPG, 2.2 APG
  • 113.1 ORtg, 90.1 DRtg

Williams is a bit raw offensively, but he would be a phenomenal addition defensively as you can see from his defensive rating. He’s got length, huge hands and is a great shot blocker. He can hold his own in the post and that will prove to be a skill that can get him some early playing time as well as his unstoppable motor.

The big man can score on the move, finishes well at the rim and is a decent playmaker at his position. His athleticism should help him get through some normal rookie slumps throughout the season. He would be a solid addition and especially at the projected No. 13 pick the Spurs are looking at right now.
