Prospect Watch: Cotton’s Stock Falls, Green Rises

0

With Week 9 of the season in the books, the NBA D-League has released their top-30 prospects to watch, with the D-League showcase on the horizon. And with the Austin Spurs setting the pace in the Southwest Division standings at 21-14, it’s only right that the Spurs have a couple familiar faces at the top of the Prospect Watch list.

#5 – JaMychal Green, F/C

Green rose a spot from sixth to fifth after last week. He’s averaging 27.3 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes, while shooting a blistering 70% from the field. The 6’9 forward has been averaging a double-double all season, and his athleticism paired along with his mid-range jumper make him a dangerous threat on the court. The D-League showcase should only boost his stock further, but teams might be hesitant to sign Green because of his lack of size.

#15 – Orlando Johnson, G

Another solid week for the guard out of UC Santa Barbara, as he put up slightly better numbers than his season averages this past week. But averaging 15.5 points, five rebounds and six assists in his last two games couldn’t save his poor shooting performance versus the Bakersfield Jam last Thursday, so Johnson drops in the D-League prospect watch from ninth to 15th.

#18 – Bryce Cotton, G

In what might be the biggest travesty in sports since Dez Bryant got hit with the Calvin Johnson rule last Sunday, Bryce Cotton fell two spots in the D-League’s prospect watch.

The pride of Providence College got better with every game this week, finishing off Week 9 with 30 points, five rebounds and seven assists versus the Reno Big Horns on Sunday. Cotton did have a couple rough shooting performances, but his leadership on the court and his development cannot be overlooked. Cotton’s shooting range should be heavily on display this weekend, tempting teams that need instant offense off the bench to sign him, but his size is still his biggest knock.
