The San Antonio Spurs might have struggled in the past few weeks, but they are still primed to get to the postseason and that means a lower draft pick come June. But have no fears for the Spurs Prospect Watch is here!

This week we are focusing on a Mountain West Conference stud in Boise State’s Chandler Hutchison. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound wing man is having his best year as a senior and should be ready to plug into a lineup immediately if the Spurs were to draft him.

Here are some of his stats:

  • 19.7 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 3.4 APG
  • 47.7 FG%, 38.3 3P%
  • 108.9 ORtg, 90.8 DRtg
    • Per-40:
      • 25.8 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 4.5 APG

Hutchison has found a way to improve his overall shooting, especially his three-point shooting despite being a high usage player. He uses 34 percent of his team’s possessions when he’s on the floor and because of that, he turns the ball over more than most would like, but if we account for a completely different role in the NBA, then that shouldn’t be an issue. He’s shown vast improvement in his shooting mechanics and that bodes well as he will likely have to continue to do so if he wants to be a threat as a shooter at the next level.

However, he’s not just an offensive stud — although he does lead the MWC in scoring. He leads his conference in defensive rebounding percentage at a shade over 26 percent per game. He projects well as a 3-and-D guy to start his career and the Spurs have certainly had success with players like that (hi, Danny Green!). He would be a great steal in the second round, but some draft analysts are projecting him to be this year’s Kyle Kuzma so a late first round pick wouldn’t be all that bad either to use on him.
