Spurs open season with rout of Legends

Highlights:

Cedar Park Center – The Austin Spurs opened the 2015-16 season in style with a 106-81 rout of the Texas Legends at the Cedar Park Center on Friday night.

Bryce Cotton led the Spurs with a game-high 23 points along with five rebounds and six assists. Atlanta Hawks assignee Walter Tavares added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while three players chipped in with 11 points.

Austin outscored the Legends 57-34 in the second and third quarters and led by as many as 22 points. The Spurs shot 51 percent for the game and shot 13-of-28 (46 percent) from beyond the arc.

Three players finished with 12 points for the Legends. Satnam Singh made his pro debut and finished with four points, two rebounds and a blocked shot in 10 minutes.

Texas shot 40 percent for the game and held an early lead. However, the Legends only hit 9-of-23 threes and could not survive two huge quarters from the Spurs as they found themselves in a hole at halftime.

The Spurs are now 1-0 on the season and will return to the court tomorrow night when they travel to take on the Oklahoma City Blue at 7 p.m. inside the Cox Convention Center.
