• The San Antonio Spurs will face their rival Dallas Mavericks tomorrow night and it would seem Dallas will be without Peja Stojakovic:

It is assumed, but certainly not guaranteed that Stojakovic will return to the starting lineup if and when he’s healthy. It is not known if he’ll be ready to play Friday against the San Antonio Spurs. Stojakovic did not travel on the two-game road trip. (espn.com)

• SportsIllustrated.com talks about Tim Duncan evolution with the Spurs:

Duncan has been and continues to be the Spurs’ stopper. He’ll turn 35 next month, and his minutes (28.7), points (13.3) and other stats are at career-lows. But when the playoffs arrive those numbers will surely rise, practically out of habit.

“I’ve never talked to Timmy one time about changing his role — we’ve had zero discussions about it,” said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. “And his role really hasn’t changed. He may not get as many touches as he used to, but he’s still the foundation of our defense. He still creates the environment on the floor for us and is basically the center of the universe.”

• With the NCAA Tournament underway, Morehead State’s Kenneth Faried is the NCAA all-time leader in rebounds passing Tim Duncan and is compared to former Spur Dennis Rodman:

Morehead State’s Kenneth Faried is the NCAA’s all-time leading rebounder.

He passed a guy who was pretty good in his college days and had a fair level of success at the NBA – Tim Duncan (Wake Forest, San Antonio Spurs).

The 6-foot-8 senior passed Duncan in mid-February. Then he had 1,576 rebounds, six more than Duncan collected at Wake Forest from 1994-97.

“My admiration for this young man Faried…you know, you don’t see this anymore. You don’t see a Dennis Rodman come along anymore,” Pitino said of comparing the Morehead State boarder to the former NBA standout. “He’s Dennis Rodman with a jump shot. That’s one of the highest compliments I can give, because I am a big fan of Rodman from my NBA (coaching) days. A guy who gets around, never lets you catch the ball in the post; shot blocker, great defender, draws the charge – and is the leading rebounder in the history of the game.” (heraldextra.com)

• GQ.com listed eight stupid things sports fans says and the Spurs were mentioned:

2. “The Commissioner is out to get us”

So then… why is it that LeBron James has zero championships and a boring, small market, guaranteed-low- ratings-delivering snore-chise like San Antonio has four titles in the last eleven years?

8. “Our star player isn’t a winner”

Alex Rodriguez, Kevin Garnett, David Robinson, Peyton Manning, John Elway: for most of their careers, they were superstar losers. Playoff flops. Anti-clutch. That is, until, all of a sudden, they weren’t. Did anything change about their character? Of course not. They just went from being superstars on flawed, mediocre teams to superstars on deep, outstanding teams.
