Spurs interested in Temple

Garrett TempleWhile most San Antonio Spurs fans are talking about buyout candidates possibly joining the silver and black, the Spurs seem to be interested in bringing a former player back.

I listed a few names yesterday that the team could bring up from the D-League for a 10-day contract while Tony Parker is out with a strained calf muscle.

One of the names that did not make my list was Garrett Temple, someone Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is interested in, according the the San Antonio Express-News.

One name Popovich confirmed intrigued the Spurs: Garrett Temple, the combo guard who was with the Spurs for the final weeks of the 2009-10 season and went through most of training camp before being waived.

He called Temple “a very interesting name for us.”

Temple was with the Spurs in training camp and played in three regular season games before he was waived, a surprise to many considering Popovich called him his favorite player in training camp.

After Temple was waived, he played for the RGV Vipers, then was traded to the Erie Bayhawks before he was called up by the Milwaukee Bucks for a 10-day contract.

Temple, who is known to be a quick study, made an immediate impact in his first game with the Bucks, finishing the game with eight points, three rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes.

For more on Temple, be sure to read his Q&A with Jeff Garcia and listen in as I interviewed him on the phone after a Summer League Game in Las Vegas.
