Spurs interested in Jeremy Pargo?

JPAccording to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the San Antonio Spurs were interested in Maccabi Tel-Aviv’s point guard Jeremy Pargo. Pargo is the younger brother of NBA player Jannero Pargo.

Stein wrote Pargo has decided to opt of his contract with Maccabi T.A. and is convinced he will wait out the NBA lockout to sign with an NBA team. The last team to talk with Pargo was the San Antonio Spurs.

Sources in Israel say that the San Antonio Spurs, before the lockout began July 1, expressed the strongest interest in signing the 25-year-old. But sources closer to home indicate that the Spurs are not alone in their curiosity and that Pargo has piqued the interest of several NBA teams.

Pargo was an undrafted point guard out of Gonzaga in 2009 and tried out for several NBA teams but never made a roster spot so he went to Israel to play with Maccabi T.A. in the Euroleague.

Pargo is a 6’2, 220 lbs point guard who averaged 13 points, four assists, and one steal in 22 games for Maccabi T.A. last season.

The Spurs are a team who may have a backup point guard spot open as they recently drafted young point guard Cory Joseph out of Texas. Joseph has shown signs of offensive struggles as he has only combined for six points and five turnovers for the Canadian National team in exhibition play. The option of putting Gary Neal at backup point guard is also an uncertainty so the prospect of Pargo coming on the squad may fit.
