Spurs Fall To Timberwolves In 134-122 Loss In Minnesota

Wednesday night, the San Antonio Spurs fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 134-122 loss in enemy territory. This ties the series at an even 1-1, leaving the last game to be decided in San Antonio on Sunday in the AT&T Center. Anthony Edwards and backup Jaylen Nowell combined for 57 points, as the Timberwolves rallied past the Spurs and put up a season-high of 20 three-pointers.

The Timberwolves shot lights out all night finishing the game with an insane 65% from the field. Power-forward Karl Anthony-Towns finished with 21-points, with Jalen McDaniels right behind him at 20 points. They started the game hot with three quick Anthony Edwards threes to kick off the night. By the end of the first half, he would already tally 18.

All 5 San Antonio Spurs starters would hit the double-figure mark, led by Keldon Johnson’s 27 points, however, this would prove to not be enough to secure the win. Doug McDermott would add 19 to the cause racking up four baskets from deep. In the second half, the Spurs would rally to multiple 10-0 runs, but could not close the distance in the end.

No Vassell-No Primo

Despite the spurs missing two key players, the team would refuse to be put away in the second half and would continually bring the game within reach. Keita Bates-Diop would contribute 15 points right around 14 minutes of game time. Jeremy Sochan saw himself put away his first two 3-pointers with back-to-back buckets in the first, finishing with his second double-figure game in a row.

Keldon Johnson, who has certainly tightened up his shooting from a season ago (especially from the three-point line) dropped five from deep and continuously showed the Spurs that they can look to him for that big basket.

All in all, the young San Antonio team showed plenty of fight in this outing. After all, this is a tough Timberwolves team who is coming off a playoff run and a healthy lineup. When the opposing team shoots 65% from the floor, not much can be done.

Following the back-to-back series in Minnesota, the San Antonio Spurs will head back to the AT&T Center for a matchup against the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls are fresh off a 124-109 victory against the Indiana Pacers at home. Zach Lavine finished with an impressive 28-point performance.

Zach Lavine is averaging 21 points, 3 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game this season. Ex-Spur, Demar Derozen put up a solid 17-point outing in the affair. Chicago’s two losses have come at the hands of the Wizards and the Cavaliers.
