Sunday the San Antonio Spurs announced they have exercised the team option on Dejounte Murray’s contract for the 2018-2019 season.

By exercising the third-year team option, Murray will earn $1,544,951 next season while playing his third season in a Spurs jersey. After next season, the Spurs will once again have the option of exercising the team option on Murray’s fourth year of his contract for the 2019-20 season that will pay him $2,321,735 for that season.

With Murray now locked in for next season, the Spurs will head into next summer’s free agency period with six players on guaranteed deals in Kawhi Leonard, Pau Gasol, Patty Mills, Manu Ginobili, Derrick White and Murray.

Murray is about to begin his second season with the Spurs most likely as their starting point guard since Tony Parker isn’t expected to return until either November or January while recovering from injury. In four preseason games, Murray has started each one and averaged 8.8 points (46% FG), 3.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.0 turnovers and 1.8 blocks in 21.8 minutes per game.
