Spurs’ Diaw has back surgery, out 3-4 weeks

When it rains it pours.

The San Antonio Spurs have been hit hard by the injury bug at the worst possible time of the season. From Tony Parker's myriad of injuries, Manu Ginobili's hamstring, to Kawhi Leonard's knee issues, the Spurs are limping into the playoffs which begin in a few days.

And as if that wasn't enough, Boris Diaw (who suffered back spasms recently) underwent surgery on his lower back to remove a cyst from his spine and will be out 3-4 weeks which means he'll miss the entire first round of the playoffs if not more.

Aside from the loss of Diaw, this means forward DeJuan Blair will likely be seeing heavy minutes in the remaining regular season games and in the postseason until Diaw returns.

The loss of Diaw will hurt the Spurs.

Diaw is an excellent passer and playmaker from the post, can hit the occasional three-pointer, and play in the paint. Not only that, the Spurs lose a big man to throw at bigger teams headed to the postseason such as the Lakers, Thunder and Grizzlies. Also, the Spurs lose some punch off their bench which already seen the loss of Ginobili for an extended period of time. Now with this injury to Diaw, and with Blair likely to see a bulk of the action, it furthers weakens the bench.

This season, Diaw is averaging 5.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 22.8 minutes per game for San Antonio.

What do you think Spurs fans? With the loss of Diaw for a while and the team hurting as the playoffs near, do you still think this team will win a title?
