Spurs collapse in final quarter, fall to Vipers

Highlights:

Despite playing well for three quarters, the final quarter doomed the Austin Spurs as they fell 113-107 to the Rio Grande Vipers in front of 4,640 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Friday night.

Austin was led by Orlando Johnson’s 22 points and eight assists. Cady Lalanne and assignee Ray McCallum each added 20 points for the Spurs, who were outscored in the final quarter despite leading at halftime by 13 points.

The Vipers were led by Jaron Johnson, who finished with a game-high 25 points. Will Cummings added 24 points and Joshua Smith added 17 for Rio Grande (7-5), who moved above .500 on the road with the win.

University of the Incarnate Word alumni Denzel Livingston finished with 11 points for Rio Grande.

The Spurs are now 10-3 on the season and will return to the court on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Blue at 2 p.m. inside the Cox Convention Center.
